Her work is particularly focused on portraits, approached through different collage techniques expressing a range of emotions. Reality is transformed by dressing the subject with colours, images and shapes that convey feelings and states of mind. Each image tends to generate different audience reactions and feelings depending on their background and life experiences.
She immersed herself in collage to express her internalised feelings as a way to escape reality. Her passion for beauty and aesthetics is captured in her creations, in which the viewer is invited for a combination of actual images and the abstract, for the co-existence of the delicate and the rough in life.
She dresses her protagonists in the skins of warriors to reflect strength, passion and joy as well as melancholy and suffering – all in a fragile and coarse harmony.
The playful dressing up of the human body is the key to Danic Lago’s creativity and an outlet for her deep feelings and emotions, the simple materials of cardboard and paper taken on a journey of transfiguration to become something meaningful and almost ethereal in nature.
