Born in Stettin, Germany 1942, Stefan Lennert attended the Kunst Akademy in Berlin and Kassel. In 1963 he began an internship at Karl Faber auctioneers of Fine Art, Munich, Germany. He remained after his internship soon specialising in Old Master and 20th century prints. In 1970 he decided to go solo becoming an independent art dealer, focusing on Classical 20th century art including Expressionism, Constructivism, Dadism, etc. He opened his first gallery in Munich in 1976.
In 1981 he relocated to London expanding his career as an international art dealer.
In 2005 he returned to his love of drawing and resolved to focus full time on his work as an artist. To this end he moved to Rome, Italy and took up with vigour the development of his line drawings from small works to bold and ambitious large-scale pieces.
After 7 years in Rome yet another move, this time to Beaulieu sur Mer in the South of France. The astonishing light and natural beauty of this particular area precipitated a radical transformation in his work, both in line and more explosively in his use of colour.
2015 brought a move to Berlin and with it a more playful and whimsical use of colour and line.
